submitted by Pamela Fake of Golden Living Center- Reading on June 16, 2009

Size of Group: 7-12

Equipment:

Objective: Continuing to learn through the twilight years, exercising the mind, social interaction, graduation ceremony

Description: The Brain Academy is a five week/one hour a week course that occurs bi-annually. Each week focuses on mental, cultural or strategic activities. Suggestions for activities (one type per week) include, but are not limited to, Memory Magic, Scrabble, Catchphrase, Taste Testing chocolates, coffees and ethnic foods, the Mozart Effect and Vivaldi's Four seasons. Special Guest Speakers focusing on history, travel or culture, power point presentations and learning new languages (sign language or spanish) are also good classroom ideas. Each resident who signs up for the Academy, must attend each class to participate in the Graduation Ceremony, unless their is an emergency or treatment that they must be at. After the 5 week program, the residents will take a comprehensive, short final exam graded immediately as a group. A graduation ceremony for the graduates completes the Brain Academy program. (Please refer to Graduation Ceremony Procedure)
