Size of Group: 6 Maximum
Equipment: 6 oz mason jars, heavy whipping cream, salt, fork, plate, upbeat music
Objective: Increase socialization and attention span. Also provides physical activity and sensory stimulation.
Description: Fill jars half way with heavy whipping cream. Put on some upbeat music, we enjoy bluegrass or Dolly. Each patient is given a jar and instructed to shake it until cream turns to butter. This process takes about 30 minutes. You will actually see the butter form inside the jar. Open the jar and drain off excess liquid. Butter is placed on a plate and a fork is used to press out remaining excess fluid. Add some salt, mix and you have homemade butter. I also bake canned biscuits, and then we have enjoy biscuits and butter.
